We've long talked about our dissatisfaction with the ICC, personally I fought the adoption of the IRC in California seeing it as a way for builders to build cheaper.
The insurance companies have come out with a program to build safer homes called IBHS, after reading through their Builders' Guide I have to wonder if it couldn't serve as the basis of a whole new residential building code
Mission
The Institute for Business & Home Safety’s mission is to reduce the social and economic effects of natural disasters and other property losses by conducting research and advocating improved construction, maintenance and preparation practices.
Vision
The Institute for Business & Home Safety envisions a nation that promotes resiliency from natural disasters and other property losses by developing an infrastructure that is damage-resistant and through personal and corporate action that helps minimize disruption to normal life and work patterns.
Membership
Our members are insurers and reinsurers that conduct business in the United States or reinsure risks located in the United States. Affiliate membership is open to brokers, managing general agents and independent agents. Associate membership is open to all others who support our mission.
Don't scoff at this anti-ICC plan, the immense money of the insurance industry could be put behind it, it's what they want, and we could escape all the Green and energy saving "save the earth" insanity in the process.
Read through the Builders' Guide I linked above, doesn't it cover all the possesses needed for a residential code without all the bullshit? Short of an engineered structure, it appears to have everything necessary for a residential prescriptive code.
